How to solve your biggest business problem

What is currently the biggest problem in your business today? That Pain In The Arse (PITA) problem. The one that’s top of your ‘to do’ list but you either can’t fix it or it’s too difficult or too painful to look at. It might be staff, clients, cash flow, strategy, operations…. what ever it is, you know THAT problem. So, how do you solve your biggest business problem?

I have a solution for you. It’s a simple 10 step process that I call my PITA Patter and it’s aim is to get you to a solution to your biggest business problem.

Before you start, print off this document.

The steps described below correlate to the box numbers on the document.

Solve your biggest business problem

1) In box 1 write down that one issue that’s your biggest pain in the arse (PITA) business problem right now.

2) In boxes 2, 3 and 4 write down three potential solutions for how you could solve that PITA problem. They can be as extreme and far out as you want.

3) In box 5, write three (or four maximum) pros, or positives, for solution in box 2.

4) Do the same in box 6 for the solution in box 3, and box 7 for the solution in box 4.

5) In box 7, write three (or four maximum) cons, or negatives, for the solution in box 2.

6) Do the same in box 8 for the solution in box 3, and box 9 for the solution in box 4.

7) You should now be looking at three possible solutions to your biggest problem, and the pros and cons for each one. All you need to do now is chose one of the solutions, and then put that solution into action.

In this process you could of course look at four, or more, possible solutions, although I usually find three is enough. You can do this process on your own, or with your team, or within departments with their own PITA problems.

I talked through this process in a recent webinar. You can watch it below;

This process is pretty much what I do with my clients, but of course, there may well be lots of PITAs, both big and small, and I may well be able to bring more pros and more cons for each proposed solution. This is where the value of a Sounding Board becomes invaluable.

If you found the webinar portion of this of interest you can see and hear more of my discussions, interviews and webinar appearances here. And if you’d like to receive great advice, tips and tales like some of the topics discussed here, make sure you don’t miss out. Please sign up to my newsletter.

It doesn’t need to be ‘lonely at the top’

And of course if you are feeling ‘lonely at the top’ and need someone to help and support you on any aspect of your business journey please feel free to contact me for a no obligation chat. I’ll be happy to have chat with you to explore how I may be able to help you. I’ll be honest and I may not be able to help you myself and in that scenario I’ll try and point you in the right direction.
