How to be your own Sounding Board

As part of a webinar that I gave to guests of Barclays Eagle Labs, I delivered a session to allow attendees to be their own self Sounding Boards. Whilst this is not a complete way of getting to a perfect solution, it is a great way of showing how an external Business Mentor or Business Sounding Board can add value to a business.

The recording below goes through ten steps. If you want to ‘try this at home’ the ‘PITA patter’ (sorry for the name 🙃) document is below and can be downloaded and printed off. The steps described below correlate to the box numbers on the document.

1) In box 1 write down the one issue that’s your biggest pain in the arse (PITA) business problem right now.

2) In boxes 2, 3 and 4 write down three potential solutions for how you could solve that PITA problem. They can be as extreme and far out as you want.

3) In box 5, write two (or three) pros, or positives, for solution in box 2.

4) Do the same in box 6 for the solution in box 3, and box 7 for the solution in box 4.

5) In box 7, write two (or three) cons, or negatives, for the solution in box 2.

4) Do the same in box 8 for the solution in box 3, and box 9 for the solution in box 4.

5) You should now look at the three solutions, their pros and cons and then decide which one is th ebest one. And then go for that!

That’s pretty much what I do with my clients, but of course, there may well be lots of PITAs, both big and small, and I may well be able to bring more pros and more cons for each proposed solution. This is where the value of a Sounding Board becomes invaluable.

Watch the portion of the webinar below where I talk through the above process;

And here is the PDF below to help you with the above process;

If you found the webinar portion of this of interest you can see and hear more of my discussions, interviews and webinar appearances here. And if you’d like to receive great advice, tips and tales like some of the topics discussed here, make sure you don’t miss out. Please sign up to my newsletter.

IT DOESN’T NEED TO BE ‘LONELY AT THE TOP’

And of course if you are feeling ‘lonely at the top’ and need someone to help and support you on any aspect of your business journey please feel free to contact me for a no obligation chat. I’ll be happy to have chat with you to explore how I may be able to help you. I’ll be honest and I may not be able to help you myself and in that scenario I’ll try and point you in the right direction.

What Next?

If any of the above resonated with you and you’d like to discuss how I could help you on your journey as a Business Owner, then please give me a call, drop me an email or connect with me on LinkedIn.

However, you might find a peer-to-peer business mentoring group is better for you.
